Master Bedroom Rugs

I know it seems a little off the cuff, but layering an area rug in your carpeted Master is completely acceptable. Richcraft_ASHMOREbed1-10

A few of a fav’s in this photo include the oh-so-comfy Birdies Slippers to slip on once you roll out of bed. The lush and incredible soft Chevron Rug to take your cosy oasis to the next level. The Seagrass Wall Baskets adding a soft yet playful vibe to the space and the uber-functional and stylish Cylinder Wall Sconce.

A typical room would take an 8×10. In a larger space, you can opt for a 9×12 if you’re wanting to really cosy up the space or add extra visual impact. Our motto: bigger is always better, but always measure. Always double check you are buying the correct size for your space!

Our Favourite Paint Colours

Paint Colours_2

Picking a paint colour can be challenging to say the least. There are so many variables that can impact how a colour will look in a space, not limited to artificial and natural light, time of day, furniture, flooring, etc. While we definitely try new colours all the time, it’s nice to have a few favourites we can rely on to work in almost any space.

See our guide below and let us know what some of your favourites are in the comment section.

Does this rug make my room look big?

One of the questions we get most frequently is how to size a rug for a room. Like most design questions, there’s no one perfect answer, but our general advice is this: the front legs of all main furniture pieces should be on the rug. Here’s our design team’s take on how to pick the perfect sized rug for your rooms.

Living room

For a large scale living room, where the furniture is floating, there is no excuse for a small rug! Place the front legs of all furniture on the outer edges of the rug or, for a cozier feel, you can actually place all of the furniture inside the outer edges.

Room size: 20′ x 19′

Rug size: 9′ x 12′

In a medium size living room, we normally opt for an 8′ x 10′ rug. The same rules as a larger living room apply. No ‘coffee table’ rugs please folks!

Room size: 15′ x 11′

Rug size: 8′ x 10′

Westmount Project Progress

IMG_7391.jpg

2018 is already shaping up to be our busiest year yet, and we are so excited about the the opportunities and milestones it holds. One of the special highlights this year is our Westmount project, a renovation and from-scratch decor job in a century home nestled in the one of Montreal’s most scenic neighbourhoods.

_MG_6000.jpg

The clients are a creative couple with precious twin daughters. They chose the house for it’s unique character and chic charm, very well suited to the family. So while the house is grand and fairly traditional (in the best way), they really want to bring it into this century and create a space that feels current and cozy. Our aim is to brighten and modernize the entire home while staying true to its historic appeal.

Note: Grace is the lead designer on this project so you’ll see her “pensive work face” throughout the photo’s! 🙂

1 Day Master Bedroom Transformation

cindybeforeandafter

Today’s master bedroom transformation! Only thing that was previously installed was the wallpaper. Client left for work this morning to that empty room and thanks to the Leclair Decor team, came back to this serene new bedroom. Only a few tiny touches to add and it’s a wrap! All in a day’s work!

Guest bedroom before and after

Here’s a quick before and after of a guest bedroom project we recently finished. This was one of our quickest turnarounds yet. Working on a tight budget, we painted the room a calming off white, re-used and painted old oak side tables and added new lighting, sheets, pillows, custom art and full length curtains. These are just iphone shots, stay tuned for the pro shots soon!Image

New master bedroom project!

IMG_4642Our new clients asked us to help them out with their master bedroom. They liked their bed (so did we) but wanted to start fresh with everything else. The owners weren’t loving the dark green they originally painted the room, we agreed and revamped it with a fresh off-white. Next we added a beautiful silver tree wallpaper to give the room that cozy nature feel we love so much. Some of the challenges with this master came with dealing the small size of the room and fitting in a king size bed. That didn’t leave much room for side tables but we feel side tables are always essential in a master bedroom. After shopping for a while for a certain size table we were only able to come up with a few “condo” furniture options we weren’t particularly fond of. Our clients told us they had a friend that fabricated furniture and would look into asking him to make the tables for us. They followed through and did he ever deliver! Perfect fit and style we were aiming for.

Once we had that aspect settled we edited some of their family vacation photos and printed them in black and white for a feature art wall. Finally, the dresser we picked out arrived and we added a few accents, bedding, lighting, curtains and final touches. Voila, a new crisp and cozy bedroom by Leclair Decor.
