Top 10: Before-and-After Edition

We LOVE a good transformation! Today on the blog we're revisiting some of our all-time favourite Leclair Decor before-and-afters from the past 10 years.

1. GATINEAU MODERN PROJECT: MAIN BEDROOM

This project illustrates just how far custom millwork can take a design. The slat wall headboard was so important to our clients who wanted their space to feel special. The addition of the built-in storage wall provided functionality while also keeping the space feeling open with its sleek glass doors.

2. WESTMOUNT PROJECT: ENSUITE BATHROOM

This one was dramatic! The Westmount project gave us an opportunity to combine our warm modern aesthetic with the historic elements of this Old Montreal home. The finishes and the use of wall moldings made all the difference in creating a spa-like retreat. We maximised storage in the vanity design with wide drawings and a tall cabinet tucked away near the entrance of the space. Leaving the vanity shelving open at the bottom allowed the textural floor to shine!

3. LECLAIR HOME: KITCHEN

During our own renovation, we made some careful decisions with the island details, lighting, and material finishes that really paid off. Relocating the range gave the main wall in the kitchen purpose and helped define the space. We maximised space and sightline by removing the bulkhead and running the cabinets all the way to the ceiling. The blend of black & white, white oak, brass, and warm leather created a timeless design that is modern yet approachable.

4. GATINEAU PROJECT: OFFICE

The directive for this home office project was simple: a bright, minimal refuge for two busy professionals to work and read in peace. Located at the front of the home, the room receives plenty of natural light and is set conveniently away from the kids' main play area. Modern millwork stretches along the sidewall and offers a work surface as well as ample concealed storage for office supplies, while open shelving lends itself to more personal decor. The whispery grey-green colour of the millwork adds gentle contrast and depth to the space while remaining soft and calming.

5. HALIFAX PROJECT: ENSUITE BATHROOM

Our Halifax project was about creating a modern coastal retreat for a family returning to the east coast after years living in Canada’s busiest urban centre. They had purchased one of their childhood homes and so our focus was remodeling and decorating the house to create a space that felt like their own. They wanted a design that spoke to the coastal style and lakeside location of the home, but that still felt current. We opted for a classic black and white motif throughout, adding pops of colour with decor to keep things fresh!

6. LECLAIR HOME: POWDER ROOM

When we moved into our home, this powder room was high on our to-do list—it had so much potential! We finally tackled this room alongside the front entryway. We started with a herringbone floor tile in a family-friendly grey tone and added delicately patterned wallpaper for subtle texture. We installed a custom vanity with plenty of storage in white oak to add warmth. We finished it off with shaker fronts and trendy leather pulls to blend classic with modern. Finally, we added fixtures in both black and brass to bring high contrast to the otherwise neutral backdrop.

7. RICHMOND PROJECT: LIVING ROOM

Positioned to capture an unobstructed view of the sunrise from the most incredible window wall, this home was a dream to work on. Beyond the perk of having a beautiful space as our canvas, the Richmond Project was rooted in complete and total trust from our clients, which is often the key ingredient in the recipe for a successful design project. This trust translated into calming and contemporary design decisions that amounted to a collection of serene spaces for our clients to make memories in.

8. CANOTEK SHOPPE LOCATION: STUDIO BATHROOM

This was the bathroom in our first studio and showroom location. It was formerly occupied by a landscaping company so while the space had the bare essentials, it was in desperate need of an upgrade. We would have a lot of clients through this bathroom so we wanted to use it to showcase our design skills and have a little fun. Our favourite part of this transformation is without a doubt the painted pinstripe detail on the walls, completed by our talented painter and often mistaken for wallpaper!

8. LECLAIR HOME: EXTERIOR

After all these years of working on 'interiors', who would have thought our top before-and-after Instagram post ever would be our exterior renovation! We truly love this transformation, and while painting the red brick might have been controversial, we think it makes all the difference in updating our home alongside the new contrasting black-framed windows and updated garage door. This exterior renovation wouldn't be complete without the new sconces and brass hardware as the finishing touches!

9. ROSEMONT PROJECT: MULTI-USE BASEMENT

This newly renovated Montreal home needed a thoughtfully designed, flexible space for gathering, lounging, and getting work done. We prioritized sleek storage solutions, optimal seating, and layered lighting in this walk-out basement. The asymmetric layout was the perfect foundation for a moody modern design. We selected textural and natural furniture and decor pieces to soften the overall industrial feel and add lived-in warmth and depth.

10. LECLAIR HOME: ENSUITE BATHROOM

Our own home was the perfect opportunity for us to push the limits of our signature warm modern aesthetic with custom millwork and bold choices! Our ensuite renovation was a huge undertaking but the new design and reconfiguration of this space certainly created the ultimate spa-like retreat! Integrated lighting throughout the space along with textured tiles and wood tones speak to natural elements and are contrasted by the dramatic dark quartz countertop with waterfall edge.
