Relaxing in one of these hanging chairs on my front porch (or near a sandy beach) is definitely on my bucket list!

Oh, Canada!

CanadaDayPostWe’re pretty proud of our true-north strong and free roots around the Leclair Decor offices, which just happen to be situated in Canada’s capital city of Ottawa. From coast to coast, Canada is diverse in its landscape, people, cultures and traditions and we can’t help but be inspired!

Whether you’re planning to celebrate the Canada Day long weekend by heading to a cottage or lounging in your backyard with a Ceasar in hand, we’ve put together our top picks from LD Shoppe and beyond to help make your indoor space all the more classically Canadian. Who wouldn’t want a little more of that modern, laid-back style we’re so well known for?

To make this long weekend even sweeter, we’re offering 20% off sitewide at LD Shoppe ALL weekend long. I think they call that killing it with Canadian kindness 😉

Our Favourite Paint Colours

Paint Colours_2

Picking a paint colour can be challenging to say the least. There are so many variables that can impact how a colour will look in a space, not limited to artificial and natural light, time of day, furniture, flooring, etc. While we definitely try new colours all the time, it’s nice to have a few favourites we can rely on to work in almost any space.

See our guide below and let us know what some of your favourites are in the comment section.

Personalize Your Home!

Personalize Your Home.

Does your home reflect who you are and your taste? It Should.

You don’t have to have expensive style, a well put together space can look like a million bucks to you, if it’s done properly. Nate Berkus thinks the key to design is personalization and we would have to agree with him. A room designed with the inspiration of a certain style, mood and colour, with hits of personal touches will make the all the difference to the space. If you have neat pieces you have collected over the years, you may just need to shine them in a new light to really be able to appreciate them, or buy new interesting pieces that say something about who you are.

Another key is to never buy sets of anything, especially large bulky dark furniture it may overwhelm the space. If you mix and match pieces that coordinate with the theme of the room, but aren’t matchy matchy it makes the space so much more interesting and unique. You want people to walk in and feel comfortable yet wowed by how great the space looks and how much it reflects you as individuals.

Don’t always shop at the same stores. If your buying everything from one store, your home will look like it’s straight out of the showroom. While in theory that isn’t such a bad thing, it doesn’t give the space a homey personal feel. It also doesn’t really act as a conversation starter if everyone knows where all your furniture is from. You want people to be curious and ask questions. “Oh where did you find this?!”

Check out locally owned stores, antique and vintage shops, as well as new stores you wouldn’t normally go to. You can even get your DIY on if you check out thrift stores and Kijiji for items that may need a little TLC, but have great potential!!  Expand your horizons and open you mind to new possibilities. There are so many options now a days for all budgets. If you are a savvy shopper there are lots of deals to be had, and great pieces to find.

You can mix old and new and you can definitely mix pricey items with inexpensive pieces. Mixing textures and colours is also key. Use white and dark pieces to contrast each other, as well add wood for warmth, and silver or gold pieces for cool contrast. Find inspiration through pictures and plan out your space. Then be on the lookout for certain pieces and in no time your space will come together !!

Obviously if you have no vision at all, we would be more than happy to help out. We can do an initial consultation to get you started and be on you way, or we can take on the project!
