Master Bedroom Rugs

I know it seems a little off the cuff, but layering an area rug in your carpeted Master is completely acceptable. Richcraft_ASHMOREbed1-10

A few of a fav’s in this photo include the oh-so-comfy Birdies Slippers to slip on once you roll out of bed. The lush and incredible soft Chevron Rug to take your cosy oasis to the next level. The Seagrass Wall Baskets adding a soft yet playful vibe to the space and the uber-functional and stylish Cylinder Wall Sconce.

A typical room would take an 8×10. In a larger space, you can opt for a 9×12 if you’re wanting to really cosy up the space or add extra visual impact. Our motto: bigger is always better, but always measure. Always double check you are buying the correct size for your space!

A quick reference is:

Queen Bed = 8 x 10′ Area Rug

We wanted to switch it up and infuse a little colour into this open concept main floor. Adding the teal not only gave a little personality to the space, it also made for visual separation allowing it to feel cozy in an open floorplan. We grounded the space using a large 8×10 White Fables rug. This not only adds contrast between the chairs and floor, it also softens the room. Every layer counts when putting together a wow space! Pairing the softer elements, like the Nicholas pendant with the more masculine pieces like the Ethan Chair make for a well-balanced space. This could easily be a softer more feminine room by doing one oversized mirror and a fabric light grey or cream chair. The playful wall display creates a fun atmosphere in the space. Don’t forget to mix it up! Mixing your metals and your woods in not only allowed, it’s encouraged! The floors in this home are quite grey. To warm it up we added hits of gold and warm wood tones like the Viveka Table !

Richcraft Ashmore Model – Trailsedge

One of our fav’s the Ashmore Dining room wows with its abundance of natural light and spacious size. It’s modern architecture lead the way for the furnishings to follow suit. Black and white played a big part in the overall design (a fav of ours obv!) and was the driving force behind all of our selections in this space. The oversized abstract Urban Faces art not only added to the style of the room it also helped to balance out the large windows. Chandeliers are oh so important (the jewellery of the room so they say) and this Atomica lighting fixture suits the space perfectly! The black Ripley dining chairs were an easy choice, as their open mid-century design adds visual appeal from every angle. The large 8×10 Barkley rug frames the space and adds that much-needed contrast between the table and the flooring.

Every Monday (or almost every Monday) each of our team members share a photo that’s inspiring them. This week we decided to focus on fireplaces!

Sacha: The simple painted out fireplace is gorgeous but it’s really the styling that’s speaking to me. Different size and finish frames are a perfect way to accentuate this typical focal point.

Eve: Canopy beds are making a comeback and I’m not mad about it. It especially works well in a large bedroom with high ceilings like this one because it helps fill the vertical space and adds an architectural detail to the design.

Sacha:
the details in this bathroom renovation are second to none and really caught my eye, especially the gold legs on the vanity. Perfection!

Designer Picks – Area Rug Edition

image_70fddd91-e461-453a-8647-c4575bccfe32.jpg

Rugs are a staple of main living spaces. Living rooms, bedrooms (including those with wall-to-wall carpet) and yes, even dining rooms, can all benefit from these textured beauties. They add colour, texture, pattern, warmth and coziness to any space and are especially useful to delineate separate areas in open concept homes. We asked our staff about their favourite LD Shoppe rugs and why they love them:

Grace: Infinite Navy Rug – I have this rug in my own home and love how it catches the light and has a slight sheen. It’s also super soft underfoot, and you can’t beat the price.

Sacha: I love the Zuri Zola Rug because it can work with almost any style!

Eve: Trinity Sand/Blue Rug – I love the pattern and unexpected colour combination.

Marilyne: I’m inspired by the coziness of the wood, the nude coloured curtains and those bright indigo chairs. Everything seems so calm and balanced.

Grace: I wandered into Current Collective during my recent travels to San Diego and could’ve stayed all day. The shop itself is bright, airy, and perfectly boho without feeling chaotic or overdone. The concrete floors and painted rafters give it a real beach house feel and the treasures to be found were endless. Cafe/juice bar at the back is the icing on the cake.

Natalie: I used to think wallpaper was the tackiest thing ever and would swear I would never use it in my home. That is until recently, when I discovered all the amazing patterns and looks you can achieve by using wallpaper as accents in a room! I love big, abstract florals, so when I stumbled upon these two images, I couldn’t decide which one to choose!

Personalize Your Home!

Personalize Your Home.

Does your home reflect who you are and your taste? It Should.

Leclair_Decor_Ogilvie_Condo_4_low

You don’t have to have expensive style, a well put together space can look like a million bucks to you, if it’s done properly. Nate Berkus thinks the key to design is personalization and we would have to agree with him. A room designed with the inspiration of a certain style, mood and colour, with hits of personal touches will make the all the difference to the space. If you have neat pieces you have collected over the years, you may just need to shine them in a new light to really be able to appreciate them, or buy new interesting pieces that say something about who you are.

Another key is to never buy sets of anything, especially large bulky dark furniture it may overwhelm the space. If you mix and match pieces that coordinate with the theme of the room, but aren’t matchy matchy it makes the space so much more interesting and unique. You want people to walk in and feel comfortable yet wowed by how great the space looks and how much it reflects you as individuals.

Don’t always shop at the same stores. If your buying everything from one store, your home will look like it’s straight out of the showroom. While in theory that isn’t such a bad thing, it doesn’t give the space a homey personal feel. It also doesn’t really act as a conversation starter if everyone knows where all your furniture is from. You want people to be curious and ask questions. “Oh where did you find this?!”

Check out locally owned stores, antique and vintage shops, as well as new stores you wouldn’t normally go to. You can even get your DIY on if you check out thrift stores and Kijiji for items that may need a little TLC, but have great potential!!  Expand your horizons and open you mind to new possibilities. There are so many options now a days for all budgets. If you are a savvy shopper there are lots of deals to be had, and great pieces to find.

You can mix old and new and you can definitely mix pricey items with inexpensive pieces. Mixing textures and colours is also key. Use white and dark pieces to contrast each other, as well add wood for warmth, and silver or gold pieces for cool contrast. Find inspiration through pictures and plan out your space. Then be on the lookout for certain pieces and in no time your space will come together !!

Obviously if you have no vision at all, we would be more than happy to help out. We can do an initial consultation to get you started and be on you way, or we can take on the project!
